The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has sounded the alarm over a nationwide shortage of tuberculosis (TB) medication, calling it a looming public health crisis. The party blames government inaction and an unresolved standoff between the Botswana Doctors Union and the Directorate of Public Service Management.
BCP Publicity Secretary Mpho Pheko warns that the shortage could lead to drug resistant TB strains, posing a serious threat to public health.
Dr Pheko told Gabz FM News that it is paramount for government to urgently form a multi stakeholder task force to resolve salary disputes, support healthcare workers, and restore medicine supply.
The BCP says failure to act swiftly would be a betrayal of the people’s trust.
Meanwhile, a report from the Central Medical Stores (CMS) seen by Gabz FM News indicates that, as of 15 April 2025, the availability of tuberculosis medications stood at just 54%
