The Botswana Meat Commission is looking to broaden its export footprint across Africa, following the signing of a 4 million US Dollars beef export agreement with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as announced by the President Advocate Duma Boko.
Responding to an enquiry from Gabz FM News, BMC said it is actively targeting new markets in the SADC and West Africa regions, specifically naming Ghana, Angola and Nigeria as its next potential destinations.
The state-owned beef exporter further said it aims to generate more than 1 billion pula in export revenues by year-end, through the commission’s product line for export which includes both frozen and canned beef items.
BMC further noted that it is also seeing continued demand for raw hides, which remain a complementary revenue stream, noting strong local uptake from several off-takers.
This as President Duma Boko pledged to revive state owned enterprises including the BMC, by the end of this year.
