The Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) has urged government to ensure that low scale public officers are not disadvantaged by review of the local per diem policy.
Speaking to Gabz FM News BOFEPUSU Secretary General, Robert Rabasimane shared that while the union welcomes the review, they advise government to consider the realities of low scale public officers. He highlighted that many officers – especially drivers benefit from the current local per diem policy as it supplements their low salary earnings.
Rabasimane further suggested that government should consider a two-tire policy system entailing public officers on D4 and above salary scale use the imprest system while those beneath D4 scale use the per diem system for local travel.
