The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) has clarified that its 17 December 2025 notice concerns a tariff application by the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), not an approved electricity tariff increase.
BERA said no adjustment has been approved, stressing that any decision will follow due regulatory processes, including public consultation.
The regulator explained that BPC has submitted a proposed tariff structure, which is under review. BERA has published the application to invite public input and will hold stakeholder consultations and a public hearing, where affected parties may make representations.
A final decision will be made after considering stakeholder submissions and balancing consumer protection with BPC’s financial viability. The outcome will be formally communicated to the public.
Written public submissions close on 30 January 2026.
