BOTSWANA'S QUANTUM COMPUTING PROGRESS STALLED BY LIMITED RESOURCES AND POLITICAL WILL

Article By: Tebogo Mokoto

Botswana’s progress in the field of Quantum Computing is hindered by limited resources and a lack of political will, according to experts.

Quantum computing is an interdisciplinary field that combines computer science, physics, and mathematics to leverage quantum mechanics, offering the potential to solve complex problems at speeds far beyond those achievable by classical computers. This cutting-edge area of research includes both hardware development and application innovation.

In an interview with Gabz FM News, Dr. Moletlanyi Tshipa, a Theoretical Physicist, emphasized the growing importance of quantum computing, predicting that it will eventually replace classical computers. He noted that nations making strides in this field will gain a significant advantage on the global stage.

However, Dr. Tshipa pointed out that Botswana faces significant challenges in advancing quantum computing. Despite the country producing qualified experts in quantum physics, a lack of a supportive environment—both in terms of resources and political commitment—has impeded progress in the field.
