Botswana is ramping up aviation safety through a new course focused on human factors in flight operations. Launched under the Civil Aviation Act, the program addresses decision-making, situational awareness, and health risks—areas often neglected in training.
Speaking at the opening of the Basic of Aerospace Medicine course, CAAB’s Director of Flight Oversight, Mr. Christopher Ferguson noted that the Authority recently underwent an international audit to align with global safety standards.
Emphasizing the link between aviation, tourism, and public health, stressing the need for human-centered safety.
Aeromed Prime Consultancy/Innovative Clinic’s Founder, Dr. Onalenna Nako-Phuthego highlighted how non-communicable diseases spread faster during air travel, while Dr. Nako-Phuthego warned that lack of knowledge not just technical issues can cause preventable incidents.
The initiative supports safer skies, builds public confidence, and aligns Botswana’s aviation sector with regional economic and tourism goals.
