Children’s Welfare specialists have urged government to prioritise guidance and counselling facilities within schools.
In an interview with Gabz FM News, Pshycosocial Support Program Coordinator at Steppingstones International Maipelo Phiase, shared that teaching staff are often overwhelmed since they work as both teachers and counsellors. She noted that this results in poor case management for children coming to school with psychosocial issues.
Phiase further urged government to create frameworks that support both student and teacher wellbeing. teachers' well-being as well as guidance and counselling facilities in schools as this will better safeguard mental well-being of students.
