Article By: Diana Motsu The Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) is in the process of identifying 25 traditional medicine practitioners for registration and intellectual property (IP) purposes. This initiative was announced by Caretaker Registrar General Joel Ramaphoi at a press conference in Gaborone this morning.
Ramaphoi stated that the objective is to train and mentor these practitioners, enabling them to leverage branding, marketing, and commercialization strategies to promote and boost local indigenous medicine.
He emphasized that CIPA aims to support and revolutionize traditional remedies and services by modernizing them, including re-packaging their products in a more appealing manner. This initiative is expected to enhance the visibility and commercial viability of traditional medicine in Botswana.
