The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in partnership with the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture, has called on local farmers to embrace climate-smart farming practices to protect food security as the effects of global warming intensify.
FAO Country Representative, Carla Mucavi, said striking a balance between agricultural productivity and environmental conservation is essential, as climate change continues to disrupt crop yields and strain water resources.
Mucavi highlighted the importance of building farmers’ resilience through training, access to drought-resistant seeds, and sustainable land management techniques.
She also urged the government and development partners to strengthen farmer capacity and invest in sustainable agricultural systems capable of withstanding the challenges posed by a changing climate.
