Government has highlighted Local Economic Development (LED) as a crucial aspect of the country’s overall growth.

Speaking during a summit this week, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs Ignatius Moswaane, highlighted the importance of transforming rural areas into localised and self-sufficient economic zones. He noted that many areas are not fully harnessing their local resources leaving them overly dependent on government’s poverty eradication programmes.

Moswaane called on local residents to leverage their local assets and to also use government opportunities such as the tendering system in order to contribute to diversifying the country’s economy and to help alleviate poverty in their communities.
