Government has issued a warning about the limited availability of infant formula for HIV exposed infants, affecting efforts to prevent mother to child transmission.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission programme is facing a severe shortage of formula. Distribution will now be restricted to infants aged birth to six months who are exclusively formula fed.
The ministry says the Francistown warehouse is out of stock, and all orders must now be collected from the Gaborone warehouse. Further urging districts to prioritize distribution to the most vulnerable children.
