Health Ministry Points to Systemic Failures Behind Healthcare Crisis

The Ministry of Health says sys-temic failures and internal sabotage have contributed to the country’s healthcare crisis.

Speaking at the Botswana National Front media briefing yesterday, Minister of Health and BNF Secretary General Dr Stephen Modise said entrenched internal challenges have undermined the health system and that the ministry welcomes the Ombudsman’s Princess Marina Hospital investigation report. He added that the ongoing will outline more revelations further noting that supplies of ARVs and cancer medicines continue to arrive.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Ombudsman has called for stronger powers after its six month investigation found overcrowding, understaffing and aging infrastructure at Princess Marina Hospital.
