The Ministry of Communications and Innovation is preparing to unveil a new national data center in October; a project officials say will strengthen Botswana’s digital infrastructure.
In an interview with Gabz Fm, Minister David Tshere explained that the facility will host critical government systems with 99.9% power reliability, reducing downtime and improving cybersecurity.
The center is expected to create jobs for IT graduates, who will be tasked with monitoring networks around the clock as part of a new national computer incident response team.
The ministry said the data center will also support implementation of the Digital Services Bill, including an open data policy designed to empower local innovators and entrepreneurs.
