Parents have expressed mixed views following a warning from the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education to schools, instructing them to stop requesting students to provide extra materials such as photocopies.
The directive comes after reports that some government schools are demanding stationery that place added financial strain on parents—especially those already struggling.
The Ministry says schools should use allocated funds and avoid placing unnecessary pressure on families.
In interviews with Gabz FM News, some parents welcomed the directive, saying it eases the financial burden on struggling families. Others, however, sympathized with schools, noting that limited government funding often forces teachers to rely on parents for essential classroom resources.
