REGIONAL PASSENGER TRAIN TO CONNECT BOTSWANA, SOUTH AFRICA AND ZIMBABWE

Article By: Tumelo Mouwane

Minister of Transport and Public Works, Eric Molale says his ministry has plans to establish a regional passenger train between South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Molale said this when addressing the ongoing session of Ntlo ya Dikgosi yesterday. He said this will be part of the five-year transformation plan which will be undertaken by Botswana Railways.

Still on the passenger train, Molale said the local passenger train’s return could be announced by June.

He said even though the Botswana Railways has lamented non profitability of the passenger locomotive it is important to return it to operation due to the convenience it brings especially during PUBLIC holidays.

The train was discontinued during the COVID-19, pandemic following its controversial return in 2015.
