VICE PRESIDENT URGES YOUTH TO LEAD GBV FIGHT.

Article By: Tebogo Mokoto

Botswana’s Vice President, Ndaba Gaolathe, has called on young people to take the lead in the fight against gender-based violence.

Speaking at the launch of the Tshepo le Bontle Youth Against Gender-Based Violence national tour, he stressed the need for unity across all sectors to combat the ongoing crisis.

Gaolathe highlighted that the fight against GBV goes beyond statistics—it’s about healing the nation and breaking the silence. He also pointed to the creation of the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs as a step toward addressing gender inequality and promoting inclusive development.

The Vice President applauded the Tshepo le Bontle initiative, describing it as a bold and compassionate effort. Over the next six months, the youth-led organization will visit nearly 200 schools, hosting workshops and engaging communities across the country, including in remote rural areas.

The campaign combines school outreach, house-to-house visits, and grassroots conversations aimed at educating and empowering young people to speak out and lead change.
