XAXABA RESIDENTS CONCERNED OVER RIVER BLOCKAGE AFFECTING FLOODING.

Article By: Solomon Tjinyeka

Residents of Xaxaba settlement in the Okavango Delta are calling for urgent government intervention over what they claim are man-made river blockages affecting the annual floodwaters.

At a recent Kgotla meeting, community member Teko Ketlogetswe accused some safari companies of deliberately diverting water from the delta’s main channels, specifically the Boro stream, which feeds into the Thamalakane River in Maun.

Ketlogetswe warned that these diversions are disrupting the natural flood flow essential for local ecosystems and the livelihoods of communities dependent on the water.

He urged the Department of Water Affairs and Sanitation to investigate the matter and remove any illegal obstructions.
