Residents of Zutshwa in the Kgalagadi District are struggling to feed their families as a lack of rain undermines efforts to grow their own food.
Kgosi Abathene Kabatlhophane says the community wants to turn to farming to reduce its reliance on hunting, but those attempting to plant crops are struggling to produce a harvest.
He says support from NGOs and employment opportunities have not been enough to ease hunger and poverty, while fires have destroyed wild fruits that once helped sustain households.
Kgosana Jacob Mokgorisi adds that some children go to school without food, while families struggle to stretch limited Ipelegeng earnings across several dependants.
